When was the last time an Indian commercial movie featured more than three to four songs? Well, the simple answer would be long, long ago!
Known for his simple yet entertaining films, director Simple Suni’s next, titled Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe (A Simple Love Story) will have no less than 11 songs to quench the musical thirst of the Kannada audience.
It is quite a rarity in present times, especially considering modern-day filmmakers emphasise background score on the lines of Hollywood films unless songs are much needed to add value to a story.
Speaking after breaking the pumpkin, a common ritual in the film industry to mark the wrapping up of shooting, director Suni shared that Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe revolves around a protagonist who is a film music director.
“If one plays the album of our movie composed by Veer Samarth at the start of the journey from Mysuru, the music lover would reach Bengaluru even before the 11 songs in the album end,” he added.
Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe stars Vinay Rajkumar, the grandson of Kannada thespian late Dr Rajkumar, in the lead role. Vinay’s father Raghavendra Rajkumar makes a special appearance.
Sharing his experience, Raghavendra Rajkumar said he had been a great fan of Simple Suni ever since he saw his popular film Simple Aagi Ondh Love Story (2013) and that he finally realised his wish to act in his project.
Veer Samarth, who scored the music, feels that this project will be a turning point in his career.
“My second film had 10 songs and this one has 11. Most importantly, all 11 songs are unique and are based on different genres. A few are incorporated as small bits to elevate the narration in the film,” the composer added.
Vinay also heaped praises on the director for making him deliver his best.
