Dhruva Sarja survived on papaya, cucumber, water for 30 days to shed 18 kg for ‘KD’

For many, shedding just a single kilogramme of body weight is a Herculean task. However, that is not the case for actor Dhruva Sarja.

He lost not just a few, but 18 whole kilogrammes in 30 days!

Sounds unbelievable, but the photos shared by the actor are clear evidence. And this is not the first time. He had previously lost and regained weight for another project in the past.

“Anything is achievable if one does it with the utmost dedication. His commitment as an actor to fit into the role of the film KD is truly commendable,” the film’s director Prem told South First.

“The character Dhruva plays in the movie has two looks — one based on the 1970s and another from a later period. Right now, we are shooting a major part of the 1970s’ era, and hence the transformation,” he explained.

The transformation

On how Dhruva Sarja achieved the transformation in such a short time, the director said it was solely because of the actor’s dedication.

“He ate only papaya and cucumber and drank just water for 30 days. He would have some regular food once every four days. Such was the strict regime he followed,” said Prem.

“For many, it might sound impossible, but it can be achieved. Dhruva did it all under extreme care and expert consultation,” he added.

The director went on to warn that such tasks should not be carried out without proper guidance and expert monitoring of the transformation.

“Dhruva has been training since his childhood. In such circumstances, it is achievable to gain or lose weight in a short time” he explained.

The character

The director said he wanted Dhruva to look thinner to suit the character from the 1970s.

“We are currently shooting the 70s era, and it will go on for another six months. We have recreated the sets to resemble Bengaluru in the 1970s. It is based on real-life events. Since it’s a big-budget period movie made in multiple languages, the shooting will go on for at least a year,” Prem added.

The film KD will also feature Bollywood star actor Sanjay Dutt, who returns to the Kannada film industry after portraying the character of Adheera, the main antagonist in KGF Chapter 2.

Primarily made in Kannada, KD will be dubbed for release in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi.

Crazy Star Ravichandran also in KD

During the teaser launch of the film, Sanjay Dutt shared that after the KGF Chapter 2 experience, he could go on to work in more and more South Indian films.

“The kind of passion, love, and energy South Indian filmmakers put into the making of a film is phenomenal. Moreover, the element of heroism in South Indian films, along with quality and content-oriented ventures, is amazing,” Dutt said.

Recently, the KD team revealed the first look of Crazy Star V Ravichandran, who plays the role of Annayyappa.

“Working with such a senior actor and down-to-earth personality, who himself is a university of filmmaking, was bliss and cannot be put in words,” Prem signed off.
