The worldwide collections of director Venky Atluri’s bilingual film Vaathi / Sir, featuring Dhanush and Samyuktha in the lead, have crossed a whopping ₹100 crores.

Sithara Entertainments, which bankrolled the film, made the official announcement on its Twitter handle on Saturday, 4 February.

The worldwide collections of the film, which was released on 17 February, touched the ₹51-crore mark in a matter of just three days. With good word-of-mouth publicity, the box office collections only kept increasing.

In eight days, the bilingual movie grossed ₹75 crores. Eight days after it entered the ₹75-crore club, the makers today announced that Vaathi grossed over ₹100 crores worldwide.

On the occasion, producer Naga Vamsi said that the idea behind making Vaathi / Sir was to spread the value of education among the masses. He also announced that they would screen the film free of cost to schoolchildren.

Soon after Vaathi / Sir touched the ₹Rs 75-crore mark, director Venky Atluri addressed a “Thanksgiving” meet organised in Chennai.

A visibly excited Venky said, “I need to thank (Naga) Vamsi for believing in the subject and in me. I also wish to thank Dhanush for his rock-solid support.”

“This is such a huge success and the first people to stamp this success was the media. I thank everyone. Today, the film grossed ₹75 crores in eight days. What more can I ask for? I thank the audience for their word-of-mouth publicity,” the director added.
