The lead actors of the upcoming film Kranti are getting embroiled in one controversy after another.
Just days after a miscreant hurled a slipper at actor Darshan while he was promoting the film in Hosapete, actress Rachita Ram, who plays the female lead, has landed herself in trouble for allegedly offensive remarks about Republic Day.
An outfit called the Karnataka Vaigyanika Samshodhana Parishat of Mandya district has lodged a complaint against Rachita Ram with the Maddur police, seeking action for her alleged “anti-national” remarks during a promotional event of the movie in Bengaluru on 7 January.
At the trailer release event of the movie, the actress said: “Every year we celebrate Republic Day. But this time let’s forget it and celebrate the festival of Kranti.”
The film is releasing on 26 January.
“Asking everyone to forget Republic Day and celebrate the festival of Kranti shows the lack of bare minimum knowledge of the actress. January 26 is the day the Constitution of India came into effect that turned our great nation into a Republic,” the complaint states.
It sought appropriate legal action against the actress for her “anti-national” remarks.

For Darshan, son of veteran actor Thoogudeepa Srinivas, the slipper incident occurred at Hosapete in Vijayanagara district.
The incident was caught on camera, and the clip showed that Darshan remained calm after the slipper was hurled at him and urged his fans to remain calm as well, saying that it was no one’s fault.
However, he immediately left the venue under police protection. He was there for the release of a song from Kranti.
Just days earlier, Darshan had to face public ire over remarks he made during a promotional interview where he said that when Adrushta Devathe (Goddess of Luck) knocks on the door, one should drag her in and undress her so that she does not leave.
While some die-hard fans justified his statement, saying that it had been taken out of context and blown out of proportion, many criticised the actor for his “sexist remarks”.
Kranti, directed by V Harikrishna, and also has a cameo by Nimika Ratnakar.
