Unlike Bollywood, recreating or remixing a popular hit song from the past is a rarity in the Kannada film industry. Only a handful of them was so far remixed.

Mellusire Savigana”, one of the most loved romantic numbers from the iconic Kannada classic film Veera Kesari (1963) is the latest to join the list.

Penned by Ku Ra Seetharam Shastry, “Mellusire Savigana” was composed and sung by the legendary musician Ghantasala. P Susheela was the female playback singer.

The song has been remixed for the upcoming psychological suspense thriller Spooky College. The movie is hitting the screens on 25 November.

Sharing her experience with South First, Reeshma said, “The recreated version of the number is no way near to the original. It just cannot be compared. I chose to do the song because of Dr Rajkumar sir and Leelavati ma’am.”

“Anyone will fall in love with the original song. The way it has been picturised, the kind of emotions portrayed in it, the beautiful lyrics and the composition are all simply the best. The Spooky College team decided to use it since it is apt for the situation.”

Music composer Ajaneesh Loknath recreated the song and Bhushan choreographed it for the film directed by Bharath G.

Director Bhagwan’s take

Following the release of the new version of the illusive song, senior director SK Bhagwan said: “Back in the days when we held musical nights, audiences would usually demand it be performed once more every time. Such is the popularity of the song.”

When asked if the melodies and the beautiful compositions would ever return to their glory, he asserted that the quality of Kannada literature and music can never fade away as they keep reinventing themselves.

About the filming techniques, the veteran director explained that only a handful of people would work laboriously for days, back then, but it is done with multiple crews with advanced technologies now.

Spooky College features Kushee Ravi of Dia fame and Vivek Simha in lead roles. It is produced by Rangitaranga under the banner of Sri Devi Entertainers.
