Udhaynidhi Stalin-starrer Kalaga Thalaivan (KT) has in five days hardly touched ₹4 crore gross collection.

On the other hand, Love Today — distributed by Udhaynidhi’s company Red Giant — is continuing to make good collections on its 19th day.

The past weekend saw the film garner around ₹2 crore per day, while KT hardly touched ₹1 crore on its opening day.

The box office collection of Love Today after 19 days stands at ₹40 crore.

KT did get mostly positive reviews from the media and was expected to have an average showing at the box office.

Despite Udhaynidhi promoting the film across all platforms, the opening collections came as a shocker to the company that is handling almost all major big-ticket films’ distribution in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu Theatre-Owners’ Association chief Tirupur Subramaniam has come out with a statement that no films for Pongal have drawn any release agreement with any theatre.

This comes after some theatre chains like Madhuram Cinemas announced that they signed an agreement with Red Giant for Ajith-starrer Thunivu.

The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce wrote to the Tamil Film Producers Council that the Telugu Film Producers Council has said Vaarasudu would have a “smooth” release.

Starry troubles

Ajith, Thalapathy Vijay, and Superstar Rajinikanth are shooting in the suburbs of Chennai: Ajith for a Thunivu song and Rajinikanth for Jailor are shooting in the Gokulam Studios situated in the Poonamalee area. Fans expect both actors to meet and exchange pleasantries.

Thalapathy Vijay and the director team led by Vamsi are busy shooting at a set erected in the same neighbourhood.

As per local reports, a few TV journalists came to the sets of Varisu and asked to know if the elephant that was used in the shoot had clearance from the Animal Welfare Board. This led to an altercation and the journalists getting beaten up.

The police registered a case against some members of the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam for assaulting the reporters.

The production crew’s version of the incident was that the reporters operated a drone to film the area where the set stood.

Following objections from the crew, there was a scuffle after the reporters apparently used language “not befitting a journalist”.
