Malayalam actor Dhyan Sreenivasan is more popular for his interviews than his films.

In one such interview, he sprung a surprise for everyone by saying that he was doing films as he felt insecure during the Covid lockdowns.

While most actors are usually aggressive during promotional events, Dhyan is quite jovial and is super cool in front of the media. He says he is never worried about his films.

At the press meet of his forthcoming flick Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna held in Kochi on Saturday, 9 September, the actor asked the audience to look for clues in his promotional interviews to know the fate of his upcoming projects.

The movie will be released on 15 September.

Aju Varghese, who was also part of the press meet, asked the people to guess the clues to know more about their movie.

Both Aju and Dhyan will share the screen space in Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna. They are well-known for their camaraderie.

Dhyan Sreenivasan felt that nobody should watch his films based on his interviews. “Instead, people should watch films based on word-of-mouth publicity.”

On a lighter note, the actor said he would give back money to those who watched his latest release Jailer directed by Sakkir Madathil which failed to win the hearts of Malayalam audiences.

A part-time actor

Brother of renowned actor-director-singer Vineeth Sreenivasan, Dhyan noted that he considers himself a part-time actor. “I call myself a Corona commitment. I always wanted to be a director and never an actor,” he quipped.

His directorial debut Love Action Drama (2019) featured Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara in the lead roles. It won mixed reviews.

Dhyan Sreenivasan recalled that he felt anxious during the Covid lockdowns and wasn’t sure if he would get offers after the pandemic. “But, I signed many films. Most of them are with people I know and are newcomers.”

No career plan

The actor admitted that he did several movies without giving much thought. “I did a lot of films for friends. I am an actor without a career plan and that’s the reason why many of my works were flops.”

He observed, “When a film fails, everyone blames the actors. But, little do they realise that it’s a joint effort. If a film fails, the producer should be blamed first, then the director, and then the actors.”

Interestingly, Dhyan Sreenivasan claims that he doesn’t want to be known as an actor. “Right now, I am busy with a host of films and there’s a reason why I am signing these many projects. We have a production house. We can make a film in just three months and sell it. I can easily make money through production. But I prefer to work.”

In the last two years, Udal (2022) was the only movie which he promoted aggressively as he felt that it had quality. “Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna also has the same quality,” he added.

“Times have changed. Not all films are doing good in theatres. Nowadays, movies that grab the attention of youngsters are tasting success and we need to go by the trend,” he signed off, while referring to the success of Romancham (2023), and Madhura Manohara Moham (2023).
