Character artiste-comedian Visweswara Rao, who acted with three CMs, passes away

Character artiste-comedian Visweswara Rao passes away

Telugu character artiste-comedian Visweswara Rao passed away following a prolonged illness on Tuesday, 2 April. He was 62.

With over 350 films (in both Tamil and Telugu) to his credit, Visweswara Rao has been popular in South Indian cinema since the late 1990s.

As a child artiste, Rao acted in 150 films. His work spanned both film and television industries.

His mortal remains were kept at his residence in Siruseri, Chennai for the public and colleagues to pay respects. The last rites were conducted on Wednesday morning.

A native of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, Visweswara Rao and his family relocated to Chennai after he attained recognition as a child artiste at six.

He is remembered affectionately for his portrayal of Manju’s father (actor Laila) in the Tamil film Pithamagan (2003), directed by Bala.

The movie was a box-office success and received accolades at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, Filmfare Awards South, and the National Film Awards.

Throughout his esteemed acting career, Visweswara Rao had the privilege of sharing screenspace with numerous legendary actors such as the late NT Rama Rao, the late Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and the late MG Ramachandran.

He also shared the screen with the next generation of actors, including Superstar Rajinikanth, Megastar Chiranjeevi, Akkineni Nagarjuna, and Powerstar Pawan Kalyan.

On numerous occasions, Visweswara Rao expressed his pride in acting alongside three Chief Ministers — NTR, MGR, and J Jayalalithaa.
