Kaatera joins the ₹100-crore club

After a disappointing start with Kranti in 2023, Challenging Star Darshan bounced back with Kaatera, which opened to positive reviews from critics and Kannada audiences.

The film is being appreciated for its content. Based on a real-life incident, Kaatera focuses on a farmer’s issue against the backdrop of the “tiller is the owner of the land” law passed in Karnataka in the late 1970s.

Meanwhile, the latest buzz in the industry is that the film’s gross collection has surpassed ₹100 crore since its release on 29 January.

According to posters shared by Anand Audio, the music label company which owns the audio rights of Kaatera, the Kannada movie grossed ₹104.58 crore in the first week.

Further, it is claimed that at least 52.77 lakh tickets of Kaatera have been sold out in a week in 72 multiplexes and 406 single screens across Karnataka.

Debate over collections

While this is not the first time a Kannada film has claimed to have collected more than ₹100 crore within weeks after its release, several questions have been raised on the authenticity of the numbers circulated on various social media platforms.

During the success meet organised by the Kaatera team, the same became the focal point of discussion. To this, producer Rockline Venkatesh replied, “I have never divulged the collections (profits or losses) of all projects to this date. I will continue to be so. Many are writing about the huge collections, and I will be happy if they are the actual numbers.”

Not bothered over the actual numbers of the collections of Kaatera, Darshan fans are celebrating the success of the film, which is having a great run at the box office with packed houses across the majority of screens where it was being screened.

Also, according to reports, the Karnataka state government is being pressed to make Kaatera the inaugural film at the upcoming Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES).

The 15th edition of the BIFFES will be held from 29 February to 7 March.
