Censor talk of ‘Bro’: An imperfect timing for Pawan Kalyan?

'Bro' is a — rehashed, pounded-down, and tweaked — remake of 'Vinodhaya Sitham' which too was directed by Samuthirakani.

Pawan Kalyan Sai Dharam Tej starrer Bro

There’s been severe scrambling for feedback before the much-awaited Pawan Kalyan’s film Bro arrived in theatres worldwide this morning, 28 July.

Exhibitors are making frantic calls to gauge the mood of the public because they are more worried than producers who are on safe shore, by and large, saved by the image of Powerstar Pawan Kalyan.

The pre-release business and other equations would eventually make them feel safer.

And the other clout who want to listen to nothing short of a positive talk includes the fans, supporters of Jana Sena, influencers and other stakeholders on social media.

Audiences would eagerly wait for the first-hour reviews and of course, the drama before Hyderabad’s Prasads Imax theatre where YouTubers grab the video bytes of reviewers and film enthusiasts.

The audience is excited at the prospect of being featured on the internet through these video bytes. Well, everyone would sprint for their bite.

But this Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej-starrer could have missed the chances of faring well at the box office, say analysts. Rains are adding to the woes, of course.

Low advance bookings

Going by the leaks on Twitter and other circles in the entertainment industry, Bro seems unlucky even after the advance bookings have been opened.

Some of the exhibitors in Andhra and Ceeded regions rue that advance bookings for Bro are even poorer than what they got for Prabhas Adipurush (2023).

The reason could be the film is not an action potboiler, nor is it an original story.

Bro is a rehashed, pounded-down, tweaked, and spicy remake of the Tamil flick Vinodhaya Sitham (2021) which again was directed by Samuthirakani. And then, there would be heavy dialogues to match the larger-than-life image of the Powerstar.

Another factor that might affect the early box office collection is relentless rains across the Telugu states. Who would want to get drenched and swept away by the flood waters? Initial feelers from the censor observers suggest that Bro fell way shorter than what audiences had expected.

The film harps on the theory of relativity and time. Sai Dharam Tej is shown as a busy corporate professional Markandeya who feels that time is precious as he goes on earning and piling up wealth.

Pawan Kalyan is shown as a Godly figure, a being descended from a higher plane. How he makes Mark realise the meaning of time is what the story is about.

The film has two leading ladies — Priya Prakash Varrier and Ketika Sharma. How they add to the story can only be known if we see it on the big screen.

Directed by Samuthirakani and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad, its screenplay and dialogues are penned by Trivikram.
