The producers of one of the most awaited films of the year, director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo featuring actor Vijay in the lead, have decided to call off the audio launch function citing the excessive demand for tickets and passes for the event.

The audio launch event, which was eagerly looked forward to by fans, was to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on 30 September.

With just a few days left to go for the audio launch, Seven Screen Studio — the production house producing the film — late on Tuesday, 26 September, announced that they decided not to conduct the event.

Taking to the social media platform X, Seven Screen Studio wrote: “Considering overflowing pass requests & safety constraints, we have decided not to conduct the Leo Audio Launch. In respect of the fans’ wishes, we will keep you engaged with frequent updates. PS As many would imagine, this is not due to political pressure or any other reasons.”

The clarification by the production house — that the event had not been cancelled due to any political pressure or other reasons — was made to put an end to the speculation and rumours that the producers were being arm-twisted by those in power.

Demand for tickets

Fans were deeply disappointed with the decision by the filmmakers.

Jagadish Palanisamy, one of the producers, took to X to explain the reasons behind the decision.

He wrote: “It is a very hard decision, and we feel the same level of disappointment as each one of the fan (sic) will go through. Despite working out various options and tremendous effort, we had to take this tough call, considering the extreme overflow in ticket demand and prioritising the safety of the guests.”

Interestingly, just hours before the decision by the production house, an audio clip (the veracity of which has not yet been verified) began doing the rounds. It gave the impression that the tickets and passes for the event were being sold at exorbitant amounts to passionate fans eager to catch a glimpse of their favourite star.

Leo, which is to release on 19 October, also stars Trisha, Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Priya Anand, and Mysskin in pivotal roles.
