After the successful poll on Twitter to find out the best Hindi song of musical Maestro AR Rahman, it’s time to know about the popular Tamil songs scored by the Madras Mozart.
The Hindi campaign was started by writer-editor Runcol Rebello’s Twitter poll.
During the Hindi campaign, four iconic songs reached the semifinals: Chaiyya Chaiyya, Ae Ajnabi, Dil Se Re and Jashn-e-Bahara.
And without any surprise, Chhaiya Chhaiya from Dil Se (1998) has been declared the winner, out of the 32 songs shortlisted initially.

AR Rahman’s Tamil songs
The Tamil poll was started by a Twitter user who identified as Sri. The user is hosting #ARRTamilBracket from 7 May to 9 June, as per the Twitter bio.
While 256 Tamil songs composed by AR Rahman were considered for the poll, 32 made it to the final list.
On 5 May, it was announced that there will be 8 pairs consisting of 16 songs. This was to choose the top eight songs by Rahman.
The top eight songs as of 7 June that reached the top list include Veerapandi Kottayile, Kannalane, Yakkai Thiri, Thee Thee, Puthu Vellai, Raasathi, Urvashi and Kannathil Muthammithal.
Fan fight on Twitter
People have their own favourite music directors. It’s Rahman for some and RD Burman for others.
In Tamil, Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman are considered thespians who gave a new outlook to Tamil songs. They both have a varied fan base.
It’s interesting to see social media initiating polls to find the best of AR Rahaman songs.
In the ARR Tamil bracket polls, some people loved and campaigned for Veerapandi Kottayile and others for Enna Solla Pogirai, Pachai Nirame and Urvashi.
