Aranmanai 4 set to stream on Disney+ Hotstar

Aranmanai 4, which entered the elite ₹100-crore club, will start streaming on Disney+Hotstar from 21 June.

The latest instalment in the popular horror-comedy franchise directed by Sundar C, Aranmanai 4, was anticipated to draw crowds due to its established fan base and star-studded cast, including Tamannaah Bhatia, Raashi Khanna, Kovai Sarala, Santhosh Prathap, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, and Sundar C himself.

However, upon release, the film was met with largely unfavourable reviews, citing a predictable plot, overused comedic tropes, and bland special effects.

As per the official poster released by the makers, Aranmanai 4, grossed ₹100 crore in 20 days, making it one of the few Tamil films, besides Captain Miller and Ayalaan, to achieve this milestone in 2024.

Even if Aranmanai 4 doesn’t give most of its lead actors scope for performance, Tamannaah gets an author-backed role, and she delivers the tour de force performance of the film, read South First‘s review.

It’s widely known that Sundar C considers the Aranmanai franchise as the milestone of his career.

The filmmaker has consistently maintained that making commercial cinema is quite challenging.

According to Sundar C, the franchise’s success, hinges on its ability to connect with its intended audience.

Sundar C acknowledges that he’s accustomed to negative reviews and doesn’t let them affect him deeply. “I approach life with a positive outlook and aim to promote positivity,” he was quoted, as saying.

In a recent interview with The Hindu, Sundar C discussed the criticism his films often face.

“When you choose to be a commercial filmmaker, you must be prepared for criticism. It’s part of the game. Commercial films typically don’t receive favourable reviews from critics. If they did, perhaps they would risk exclusion from the intellectual circle. Critics tend to favour different kinds of films, even if they aren’t commercially successful,” he explained.

Aranmanai 4 features cinematography by Esakki Krishnasamy, music composed by Hiphop Tamizha, art direction handled by Gururaj, and editing done by Fenny Oliver.
