Ann Hui to receive lifetime achievement award at Kerala film festival
Renowned Hong Kong filmmaker Ann Hui will be honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 29th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), set to take place in Thiruvananthapuram.
The award, which includes a cash prize of ₹10 lakh, a statue, and a certificate, will be presented to Hui by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during the festival’s inaugural ceremony on 13 December, 2024.

A trailblazer of the Hong Kong New Wave movement, Hui is acclaimed for her films’ feminist lens and poignant explorations of themes such as racism, sexism, immigration, and cultural identity.
Over her distinguished career, Hui has garnered multiple honors, including six Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Director, the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival (2020), and the Berlinale Camera Award (1997).
As part of the tribute to her legacy, IFFK will showcase five of Hui’s most iconic films, including Boat People, A Simple Life, and July Rhapsody. The screenings provide a unique opportunity for audiences to appreciate her impactful contributions to cinema, further solidifying her position as a major figure in global filmmaking.
