Director Alphonse Puthren, who shot to fame with the sensational romantic comedy Premam, has hit back at trolls for targeting his latest release, Gold.

The Prithviraj-starrer’s release date was rescheduled after the director told on social media that he was not satisfied with the movie and needed more time to complete it.

Produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames, Gold drew huge expectations but didn’t do well at the box office.

In fact, it received severe criticism upon its release in December 2022 and has been targeted by trolls ever since.

Nayanthara played the female lead. However, she got less screen space in the movie, which didn’t go down well with her fans.

Against this backdrop, an angry Alphonse Puthren registered his protest by removing his profile picture on his Facebook account today, 23 January, and lashed out at the trolls.

“If you are trolling me and telling bad things about me and my film Gold for your satisfaction… It is good for you. Not for me. So I’m protesting by not showing my face on the internet,” his post read.

He also clarified that nobody has a right to “tease” or “abuse” him in public and told the trolls to not vent their anger on his (Facebook) page.

“I’m not your slave or I did not give rights to tease me or abuse me in public. So see my works if you like. And don’t come to my page and show your anger. If you do so, I’ll just become invisible on the internet. I’m not like before. I’ll be true to myself first and then to my partner and my children and the people who like me and stood beside me when I fell.”

“I will never forget the laugh on your faces when I fell. No one falls on purpose. It happens by nature. So the same nature will protect me with support. Have a great day,” he slammed the trolls.

Only Kamal Hassan can criticise me

The director also went on to say that only Kamal Haasan has the authority to say that his films aren’t worth watching.

Puthren also shared a screenshot of this comment on Instagram where a user said, “If the movie is not good, people will say that it’s not good.”

However, this comment is not available now. The director went invisible on Instagram.
