An audio cassette is a nostalgic piece of record for those from the 1970s to the early 90s generation. It usually had two sides — Side A and Side B.

The creative minds of filmmakers, Hemanth Rao and Rakshit Shetty, made use of the same concept to refer to their two-part romantic drama, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello as Side A and Side B.

While Side A — released on 1 September won the hearts of the audience across south India, Side B of the venture is ready to hit the screens on 17 November.

With the expectations having increased for Side B, will there be another part of the film?

Director Hemanth Rao reveals that Rakshit Shetty, who plays the protagonist (Manu), did bring this up during the making of the film.

“Rakshit once shared it with me asking why not make a movie by mixing both Side A and Side B parts of the movie. It was interesting, and I am working on it. I might eventually end up writing and maybe even end up doing so,” said Hemanth Rao at a pre-release meet.

While the audio cassette had only two sides to it, what could one refer to as the third part (side), Rakshit Shetty instantly replied saying that it would be a CD.

He said, “The audio cassette had only two parts, and it was soon overtaken by Compact Discs (CD)!”

So, here is something to cheer for all the lovers of Manu and Priya from the Sapta Sagaradaache Ello-Side A and the upcoming Side B, there could be an additional bonus for them shortly with the thoughts of Sapata Sagaradaache Ello-CD also running in the minds of both director and the versatile actor.

Popularity

The makers of the film announced that Side B of it would be released exactly seven weeks later on 19 October, but eventually ended up doing it 77 days later.

Rakshit Shetty explained that the delay was mainly because of the popularity and appreciation it garnered from Kannada and other South Indian audiences, especially Telugu.

“The film was very well received in Telugu. We even had plans to release it in theatres the Malayalam version, but the dates of the OTT release were already scheduled, and hence we did not do it,” the actor said.

“It got an amazing response and the dubbed versions of the film topped the search results for the best romantic drama for several weeks,” Rakshit Shetty pointed out, adding the reasons why they pushed the dates twice.

On 17 November, Side B of the film will be released simultaneously in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.

Hemanth Rao on Anant Nag

Director Hemanth Rao, who made his directorial debut with the Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu (2016), is a great admirer of Kannada veteran Anant Nag.

His debut venture featured Anant Nag in the pivotal role of an aged father who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Rakshit Shetty played Anant Nag’s son in the film.

“Anant Nag sir is my northern star in film career. Like how many look at the Polaris, the North Star for navigation at night time, I always look up to him for inspiration and seeking directions in my career,” Hemanth Rao said.

“I met him and shared with him the story of Sapta Sagadaache Ello, and he liked it very much. My only regret is that I could not place a character that suited him in the film. Honestly, I tried, but it organically did not happen,” he added.

Though Side A was widely appreciated for this heart-wrenching tale, it was also criticised by a few for its slow-paced narration.

“Yes, it was my conscious effort to keep a bit slow-paced since the narration of such an intense romantic tale required so, but Side B will be fast-paced compared to Side A,” Hemanth Rao noted.

On the recent developments relating to the review bombing and the court ruling in Kerala, the filmmaker shared his personal view.

He recalled that he came across many Youtubers near the theatres who ask the same kind of questions to every audience returning after watching a movie to create a one-sided opinion about a movie.

The director also felt that such practices were not in the right spirit considering the film business.

“However, the audience would soon realise if a movie is worth watching or not, irrespective of what others say. If the content is good, the audience always appreciates it and backs such projects,” he signed off.
