In the 80s and 90s, triangular love stories were one of the popular ready-made commercial hit formulae in Indian cinema.

Two heroes fall in love with the same heroine, but eventually, one of them sacrifices his love.

But, in Abhiramachandra, debutant director Nagendra Ganiga goes a step ahead and creates a blunder of a triangular love story that is marred by the “mother of all coincidences”.

Now, without much delay, let’s see what makes Abhiramachandra an “unimaginable” love story:

As the title suggests, the film revolves around three main characters — Abhi, Rama, and Chandra.

All three share a rented house and struggle to meet their ends. One is a theatre artist, another is a cab driver, and the third one is a cashier in a hotel.

Abhi (Ratha Kiran) has a childhood love story and his biggest dream is to meet and express his love for her. But for now, all he is left with is a pair of earrings belonging to the girl from his days in the orphanage.

Ram (Siddu Moolimani) too has a love story but that’s only revealed sometime later.

Chandra (Natya Ranga) does nothing but play PUBG, a popular online game, on his smartphone. His other pastime is to smoke weed and drink. He too has an online crush.

What happens when all three friends realise that they are all in love with the same girl, or there is a mega twist to it in the end?

Coincidences galore

Despite considering cinematic liberty where unbelievable things do happen, Abhiramachandra is an exception by itself.

Spoiler alert: Chandra and a girl who often meet online while playing PUBG. The girl turns out to be the childhood crush of Abhi.

That’s not all, they all end up meeting at a friend’s bachelor party, and the mother of coincidence is that the same girl is the girlfriend of Ram.

Confusing right? Don’t be as the biggest twist still awaits those who can bear it till the end!

Squanders

Beyond the triangular or the quadrangular love story, the director squanders a lot from going back and forth to the childhood days of the main protagonist, Abhi.

He then suddenly lands in the present day with the three protagonists hatching plans to meet their financial ends.

Even the music scored by KGF (2018 and 2022)-fame composer Ravi Basrur fails to lift the tempo of this flat journey that is filled with silly coincidences, which even a child audience would find amusing.

Verdict

Highly recommended to only those who are still curious as to how a four-lane love story can be embedded with such coincidences. Rest can simply skip it and re-watch one of your favourite triangular love stories.
