An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Hyderabad on Sunday, October 11, after a passenger’s electronic device, reportedly a power bank, caught fire.
The incident involved IndiGo flight 6E6115, operated by an Airbus A321neo (VT-NOE). The aircraft departed Delhi at 1.30 pm and was scheduled to arrive in Chennai at 4 pm.
Following the incident, the cabin crew used a fire extinguisher to contain the flames. The aircraft was diverted to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, where it landed safely.
All passengers were reported to be safe.
In a statement, the airline spokesperson said the cabin crew acted promptly to control the situation before the aircraft landed in Hyderabad.
“Flight 6E 6115 from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Hyderabad after smoke was detected from a passenger’s electronic device. The aircraft landed safely at RGIA after the crew brought the situation under control,” the airline said.
IndiGo also informed that an alternate flight is being provided for the passengers to travel to Chennai.
“We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers due to this unforeseen situation and are making all efforts to minimise it, including offering refreshments and sharing timely updates,” the airline said.
