Cartoonist Satish Acharya’s Instagram page has been unblocked a week after it was restricted in India, following posts critical of the BJP-led central government, including a cartoon he drew for South First, featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Informing that his page has been restored, Acharya shared a cartoon that read, “UNBLOCKED.”
“Finally, UNBLOCKED on Instagram. Thanks everyone for supporting me & standing with me. Really means a lot,” he wrote.
Finally, UNBLOCKED on Instagram. 😊

Acharya’s Instagram account was blocked on September 28.
The message on his Instagram page said: “We temporarily restricted access to this account pursuant to legal requirements under India’s Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules.”
Among the cartoons restricted was one drawn for South First, criticising PM Modi after the Election Commission of India expose by Indian Express.
“Darr ke aage jeet nahi hai, Saheb! (There’s no victory before fear, Sir!) Some cartoons published in 2023 are also being blocked NOW!” Satish Acharya had said commenting on the restriction.
Calling out the Modi government for restricting accounts and content critical of it, Satish Acharya shared a statement of PM Modi from December 2018 when he congratulated the late cartoonist RK Laxman’s family for digitalising the ‘Common Man’ cartoon.
“Cartoons have healing power, cartoonists closer to god,’ PM Narendra Modi had then said.
“Wah Modiji Wah! #BlockSarkar,” Satish Acharya posted after sharing the quote.
