Synopsis: Delhi Police have arrested four people, including three minors, in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl. The victim, who knew the accused, was allegedly sexually assaulted and stabbed inside a tempo before her body was dumped in a field. Her decomposed body was partly eaten by dogs.
In yet another shocking crime reported from the national capital, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and brutally murdered by four people, including three minors, after which her body was dumped in an open field, where it was partly eaten by stray dogs.
The horrifying crime came to light on September 13, when the victim’s decomposed body was found near a field in Northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area. According to the police, the body was so badly decomposed that they were initially unable to ascertain the victim’s gender. Some parts of the body had been eaten by stray dogs, and the victim’s hand was found separated from the body.
The police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act. During the investigation, the police identified four suspects, including three minors aged 16 and 17.
According to the police, the girl and the accused were acquaintances and were travelling together in a tempo when the crime took place. The police said the girl and the accused had consumed alcohol. It is not clear whether the girl was forced to consume alcohol by the accused.
While they were in an intoxicated state, the girl was sexually assaulted by the accused inside the tempo and stabbed to death, the police said. The accused then disposed of the victim’s body in an open field, according to the police.
The police analysed footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras installed near the crime scene and in surrounding areas, which helped them make a major breakthrough in the absence of eyewitnesses.
The CCTV footage helped the police spot a tempo moving near the scene around the time the crime was believed to have taken place. After analysing footage from multiple CCTV cameras, the police ascertained the tempo’s registration number and traced it on the intervening night of September 15 and 16.
Questioning the tempo’s driver led the police to the accused, including the minors. One of the accused has been identified as Shivam alias Sudama alias Chuchu, a resident of Khadda Colony. All the accused have been arrested.
The police have recovered the knife allegedly used in the crime and the clothes allegedly worn by the accused. Further investigation is underway.
