Synopsis: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) alleged that 27–33 volunteers from Karnataka were detained near the Delhi–Haryana border and transported away from Delhi. The party raised concerns over the alleged absence of female police personnel accompanying women detainees. It demanded disclosure of their whereabouts, legal status and access to legal representatives.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Sunday, October 11, alleged that around 27–33 of its volunteers, travelling from Karnataka towards New Delhi, were detained by police near the Haryana–Delhi border and transported away from the national capital.

According to a press release issued by the CJP, the group comprised approximately 15–20 men and 12–13 women. The party alleged that no female police personnel accompanied the women during transportation, raising concerns over compliance with legal safeguards.

“According to reports from the ground, the detained group consists of approximately 15 to 20 males and 12 to 13 females. Grave concern has been raised as there are reportedly no female police personnel present with the transporting team, raising serious questions regarding protocol, safety, and human rights guidelines concerning the detention of women,” the CJP said in its statement.

CJP also alleged that the detained volunteers are being transported away from Delhi “under disputed circumstances.”

“The volunteers are currently being transported away from Delhi under disputed circumstances, leaving their safety, legal whereabouts, and well-being a matter of immediate panic and concern for their families and legal teams back in Karnataka,” it said.

CJP demanded that authorities disclose the volunteers’ whereabouts and ensure compliance with safeguards governing the detention of women, and provide legal representatives access to those detained.

“In light of these events, advocates and well-wishers are making urgent demands and appeals: law enforcement authorities must immediately reveal the exact destination and status of the detained volunteers; strict compliance with Supreme Court guidelines regarding the detention of women—specifically the mandatory presence of female police personnel—must be ensured without delay; and legal aid organisations and representatives must be granted immediate access to the detainees,” the statement read.

Detainees taken to Haryana border

Meanwhile, Barkath, a CJP volunteer from Karnataka, was detained by police at Delhi’s Connaught Place and taken to a location approximately 35–40 km away, towards the Delhi–Haryana border.

Mohshin Khan, another CJP volunteer, told South First that Barkath was detained at around 4 pm. According to Khan, Barkath told him that he was being held along with another 70–80 detainees.

The exact whereabouts of the detained volunteers and the reasons for their detention remain unclear. Police have yet to officially confirm the detentions or respond to the allegations raised by CJP.

The detentions came as the Supreme Court on Sunday directed that no individual should be detained except in accordance with the law, specifically referring to people outside areas where prohibitory orders were in force. The court was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Advocate Menaka Guruswamy, alleging the illegal detention of more than 7,000 people during the CJP protests.
