Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, one of India’s most iconic cine voices, passed away today, at the age of 92.
Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed the news, with last rites scheduled at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital after cardiac and respiratory complications.
A life dedicated to music
Born in 1933, Asha Bhosle was the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar. She began singing in films in the late 1940s and quickly established herself as a versatile playback singer.
Known for her adaptability, she sang across genres — from classical to pop, cabaret to ghazals. She recorded over 12,000 songs in multiple languages, making her one of the most prolific singers in the world.
