Shobha Karandlaje

Union Minister of State for Agriculture Shobha Karandlaje, who is also a Lok Sabha MP from Karnataka’s Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency, seems to be a star performer in the Narendra Modi Cabinet.

Highly recommended by BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santhosh and picked by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to be part of the Modi Cabinet in July last year, Karandlaje is said to have impressed even the prime minister with her work.

“She arrives at her office as if it is a proper corporate job and spends the whole day working, walking in and out of meetings. The only time she isn’t in her office is when she is on a party assignment or ministry-related outstation trips,” a source from the BJP who recently met Karandlaje told South First.

It seems Karandlaje is among the few ministers in the Union Cabinet who maintains and files a monthly report on everything that her department has done. Text, Photo, Graph, GFX — the whole package — hardbound and submitted to PMO.

Month after month, her consistent reports have even drawn Modi’s attention to her work. And earlier this month, Karandlaje got a call from the PMO telling her that Modi was “very happy” with her work.

The PMO, it seems, had just one suggestion — hashtags!

PMO asked the minister to start using hashtags to promote the “good work” she has been doing. If you are wondering why you suddenly see hashtags like #FarmHeroes, #AgriExports, #AgriProgressReport on the Union minister’s social handles, you know why.
