The Congress party’s poll strategist Sunil Kanugolu is an elusive man for the camera lens. Despite working with various parties, including the BJP and the AIADMK, for their election management for close to a decade, he has never been snapped — until now — when he is heading poll strategy for the Congress in Karnataka and Telangana.

A self-confessed camera-shy guy, Sunil Kanugolu, had managed to evade the camera for a long time. You wouldn’t have found his photos anywhere. Not anymore, thanks to Karnataka Congress.

With practically no presence on social media either, media houses have been mistakenly using his brother and  businessman Sushil Kanugolu’s photo as his.

Unlike his contemporary poll strategist Prashant Kishor, who is openly public with his views, comments and even politics, and enjoys media attention, Sunil Kanugolu has consciously avoided being in the media limelight with not even as much as a photo in public.

So much so that most journalists or even politicians, who haven’t met him before, won’t recognise him even if he were in the same room. But on Wednesday, in a late night meeting of Karnataka Congress leaders in Bengaluru, Sunil Kanugolu was snapped, seated next to DK Shivakumar.

There is no escaping the camera now, is there, especially when you are in the midst of hectic politicking amid seasoned and camera-loving politicians?
