Telangana election BRS candidates

A whirlwind of suspense and drama swept through Telangana’s political theatre when Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao took centre stage on Monday, 21 August.

The shrewd politician unveiled the list of candidates for 115 out of the 119 Assembly constituencies, though the polls are at least more than three months away. One name, however, was conspicuously missing from the list.

A video that surfaced on social media a few months ago showed the state’s Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivasa Rao bowing before KCR. The esteemed doctor then looked like humility personified.

The visual of Dr Srinivasa Rao with KCR flashed across several minds after the BRS supremo announced the list of candidates. The doctor was missing even though he had announced with the grandeur of a Shakespearean soliloquy that he would contest the polls on a BRS ticket.

The soliloquy was seen in the political theatre as Dr Srinivasa Rao’s vaulting ambition, the same hubris that did Macbeth in. Before the candidates were announced, Health Minister Harish Rao reportedly took Dr Srinivasa Rao for a telephonic aside and tutored him on political decorum.

Dr Srinivasa Rao might have realised what was in store for him. Denying “rumours” of the telephonic tutorial on political etiquette, he assured the masses that he was far from being discouraged by the comedic chaos that followed the reported hearsay.

With a dramatic flair that would make the Bard proud, he declared: “We will move forward inspired by CM KCR.”

What’s next for Dr Srinivasa Rao? After this riveting display of political acrobatics, anything is possible! KCR has not yet announced four candidates!
