Three separate deaths have put the BRS in Telangana under a cloud of suspicion with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy wondering loud if the Opposition party was linked to them.
During an informal media interaction in Delhi on Wednesday, 27 February, the chief minister mentioned the death of Telugu film producer Kedar Selagamsetty, who had produced the movie, Gam Gam Ganesha.
Kedar died under suspicious circumstances in his Dubai apartment on 25 February. He was an accused in a drugs case, registered in Hyderabad in 2024.
Revanth Reddy alleged that Kedar was close to BRS working president KT Rama Rao and his business partner, though he did not specify the business.
The chief minister questioned whether Kedar’s death had anything to do with the authorities speeding up the investigation into the drugs case in Hyderabad.
According to reports, Kedar had attended a party on Monday, 24 February, night, returned to his apartment in Dubai early on Tuesday, and went to bed. He died in his sleep.
Revanth Reddy questioned KTR’s silence on Kedar’s death and why he was not demanding an inquiry into it, suggesting that there might be more to the incident than meets the eye.
Next, he raised the death of advocate Ganta Sajiva Reddy, who died of a heart attack last year in Hanamkonda.
The deceased had been arguing a case against the BRS government about the alleged shoddy construction of the Kaleswaram Medigadda project. Its piers sank in 2023, ahead of the Assembly elections.
Sanjiva Reddy died a week after he was admitted to a private hospital in Hanamkonda. Revanth Reddy’s comments implied Sanjiva Reddy’s heart attack might have been caused by the pressure exerted on him, as he was arguing a case against Telangana’s previous BRS government.
Revanth Reddy also mentioned social activist N Rajalinga Murthy, who was brutally murdered in Bhupalpally on 19 February.
Murthy had filed a petition in a Bhupalpally court alleging corruption in the construction of the Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. He had named former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and former Minister T Harish Rao as respondents, who subsequently filed a quash petition in the High Court.
The murder took place a day before the quash petition was to be heard in the High Court, and the case is yet to be adjudicated.
Revanth Reddy stated that whether or not the BRS demands a thorough inquiry into the three deaths, his government would get to the bottom of each case and uncover the truth.
Responding, Harish Rao pointed out that the Bhupalpally superintendent of police and the chief minister were speaking in different voices.
The SP had stated that the motive behind Murthy’s murder was a land dispute, but Revanth Reddy attributed other motives.
KTR has yet to respond to the allegation that there might be foul play in Kedar’s death.
