Sunil Kanugolu

Even as he is driving Congress’ election and campaign strategy for the Karnataka and Telangana Assembly elections — both due this year — poll strategist Sunil Kanugolu, we are told, has started work on two more states.

In what is a multi-election year, Sunil Kanugolu’s team will expand work to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh as well. The two states have elections scheduled for November-December this year.

While operations are in full swing, with dedicated office set-ups, in Karnataka and Telangana for the upcoming polls under the banner of INClusive Minds, the poll strategist’s team is only taking baby steps in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

A small team has been set up in Rajasthan to lay the foundation, before operations are scaled up. A similar set-up is being put in place in Madhya Pradesh.

Sunil Kanugolu, who is also a Congress task force member, is said to have held detailed discussions with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and only then accepted the offer to handle poll strategy for the party in the state.

In Rajasthan, the Congress seems to be in a precarious position, given the infighting and factionalism in the state unit of the party.
