Synopsis: Rumour mills went on an overdrive after BRS leader T Harish Rao met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

Curiosity levels shot up in political circles in Hyderabad on Saturday, 21 March, when former minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao met his party’s arch-rival and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in the latter’s chambers on the Assembly premises.

Though Harish Rao himself did not make any secret of his meeting with Revanth Reddy, rumour mills went on an overdrive, churning out story after story.

The former minister said he met the chief minister on the request of MLA T Padma Rao, to seek release of funds for the construction of a few educational institutions in the Secunderabad Assembly constituency.

Even though Harish Rao was forthcoming in explaining the purpose of his visit, the buzz continued, as the meeting took place immediately after he had criticised the Congress government and Revanth Reddy during a debate on the state’s budget for 2025-26.

During the discussion, Harish Rao recalled the abusive words that Revanth Reddy had used in the House, such as “stripping and beating those who masquerade as journalists and those who were behind them,” implying the BRS.

After Harish Rao concluded his speech, in which he called the Congress government a “blue-tainted fox” to portray it as a rank hypocrite, he called on the Chief Minister, leaving the media flummoxed.

It is more than likely that the two BRS leaders strictly confined their visit to seeking clearance for the educational institutions. However, the media, as is its wont, tried to see something even though there was nothing there to see.
