It is no secret that bureaucrats too swear loyalty to political parties and are divided into rival camps. And it is no different in Andhra Pradesh.

There is a section of the bureaucracy that swears allegiance to the TDP and have been quietly biding their time after being shunted to low profile positions by the ruling YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh.

And it is this section that has, of late, been predicting a doom for the YSRCP in the 2024 Assembly polls. They, in fact, seem confident that the YSRCP will not just lose, but be routed in the elections.

So confident are they of their prediction that some have even begun to discuss who will get which plum post  once the TDP government is formed post-election — much like creating a “shadow Cabinet” that will keep an eye on happening in “their” departments.

Of this lot, none seems to be more upbeat than a middle-level IPS officer who has been telling friends in the construction and real estate sector that the TDP will be back in government with 110 seats and that the sector will once again witness a “golden era”.

It is well known that realtors and the builders in Andhra Pradesh consider the period between 2014 and 2019, when the TDP was in power, as the golden era in the state for them. The IPS officer’s declaration has sent a ripple of anticipation among players in the sector.

With the hype created by the TDP government, prices of land and apartments had hit the roof and everyone made merry at the expense of the middle class who found their dream houses were beyond their reach.

Any guesses about the community to which this IPS officer belongs?
