The Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge over the Ganga river in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district collapsed for a second time on 4 June, and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar heard the echoes of the splash even in faraway Bengaluru.

Even as you thought politics couldn’t get any more entertaining, posters blaming Kumar for the bridge collapse made their grand appearance on the streets of Bengaluru on Tuesday, 18 July.

The timing and placement of the posters were eye-catching. They popped up at Chalukya Circle, located right near the venue where Kumar is attending an Opposition party unity meeting.

One of the posters accorded him a warm welcome but with a hilarious twist. “Welcome to Shri Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, Government of Bihar. Sultanganj Bridge, Nitish Kumar’s gift to Bihar, that keeps collapsing,” it read.

“It seems like bridges in Bihar have a hard time surviving Nitish Kumar’s reign, but hey, at least he’s consistent! And if you’re looking for someone to lead the ‘Opposition Party’ campaign, count on him — apparently, bridge collapses are his specialty,” the poster continued.

Another poster couldn’t resist poking fun at Kumar’s aspirations for the top Opposition spot.

It boldly proclaimed, “The unstable Prime Ministerial contender. Bangalore rolls out the Red Carpet for Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.”

“First date of Sultanganj bridge collapse — April 2022. Second date of Sultanganj bridge collapse — June 2023,” read the poster.

The police, apparently red-faced, have launched an investigation to find out those who had put up these mischievous posters, after removing them.
