Chandrababu Naidu

If TDP and YSRCP workers clashed a few days ago on the occasion of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to his home constituency of Kuppam in Chittoor district, on Thursday, 1 September, it was YSRCP activists who beat up their own MLC KRJ Bharat’s personal assistant Murugesh in the same town.

According to sources, the assailants, who allegedly belong to a rival group in the YSRC, raided MR Hotel, which is owned by a YSRC leader, and attacked Murguesh, who sustained injuries to his head.

The attack is being seen as a consequence of the YSRCP’s continuing hunt for a candidate to take on, and defeat, Chandrababu Naidu on his home turf in the 2024 Assembly elections.

Though the immediate provocation is not known, the assailants used deadly weapons in their attack. The victim, who was rushed to a hospital, is now under treatment. The doctors attending to him stitched up the wounds at 10 places and his condition is reported to be critical.

Search on for Kuppam candidate

Of late, Kuppam has become a hotbed of political activity with YSRCP determined to defeat Chandrababu Naidu.

Though it was given to understand that Bharat, who is YSRCP in-charge of the Kuppam constituency, would be the candidate against Naidu, he, however, was made an MLC — which means that the YSRCP is now looking for another candidate who can measure up to Naidu.

When Naidu visited Kuppam for two days recently, violence broke out on a large scale with the workers of both YSRCP and TDP clashing at several places.

The YSRCP is intent on dealing a blow on the morale of the TDP workers by focusing all its energies on defeating Naidu.
