Synopsis: YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged that the Andhra Pradesh government is suppressing opposition voices after the party’s official Facebook page was made inaccessible in India following a legal notice issued under the IT Act. The move comes months after the party’s official Instagram account was taken down. Jagan alleged the state government was routinely using legal action and restrictions on online content to curb dissent, and demanded that the Facebook page be restored.
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday, 14 June, alleged that the Chandrababu Naidu-led NDA government in the state is suppressing opposition voices after the party’s official Facebook page became inaccessible in India in compliance with a legal notice issued under the IT Act. The development comes after the party’s official Instagram handle was taken down earlier this year.
“The Chandrababu Naidu government continues to suppress the voices of the people and the opposition. After the takedown of our official Instagram handle earlier this year, the official YSRCP Facebook page has now been made inaccessible in India. This is not just an attack on YSRCP; it is an attack on democratic values and freedom of expression,” he wrote in a post on X.
“We only reveal facts, expose the government’s failures and corrupt practices, and bring to light issues that affect the people. Silencing an opposition party’s official handles, thereby suppressing opposition voices for speaking the truth, sets a dangerous precedent and is most undemocratic.”

Jagan further alleged that the government has employed various methods to curb dissent in the state, including filing cases against critics and restricting social media accounts.
“From cases being filed against those questioning the government over expenditure associated with Amaravati capital development, irregularities in the DSC process, TTD ghee tenders, and other matters of public importance, to the restriction of critical content online, a disturbing pattern is emerging. We will challenge these unfair actions through every legal and constitutional avenue. No intimidation, censorship, or misuse of institutions can silence the voice of the people,” he said.
Jagan demanded that the YSRCP’s official Facebook page be restored immediately “in the interest of democracy and to uphold the constitutional spirit.”
In response to Jagan’s post, several netizens on X also shared takedown notices issued against their own accounts and posts across social media platforms.
