Walk with Nations JNTUK

Inspired by the idea of Unity in Diversity, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTU-K) in Andhra Pradesh has come up with a novel idea named “Walk with Nations.”

As part of the initiative, the national flags of 193 countries recognised by the United Nations (UN) and of Palestine, recognised as a sovereign state by 146 of the 193 UN members, have been set up on the university campus.

This is the first time such an initiative has been undertaken at any university in India.

Sources from the university said Walk with Nations encapsulates the spirit of global unity, despite differences in countries, regions and languages, and in essence reflects the idea of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The world is one family).

‘Reflects global spirit of citizenship’

JNTU-K Vice-Chancellor (In-charge) Dr KVSG Murali Krishna said that the setup was a replication of the arrangement of flags of all nations at the UN Headquarters.  Speaking to South First, he expressed pride that JNTUK is the first university in India to undertake this endeavour.

According to him, similar displays of national flags have been set up at prominent locations worldwide, including Geneva (Switzerland), New York (USA), Seoul (South Korea), Shanghai (China), and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). JNTUK is the sixth location globally and the first in India to display all 194 national flags in one place.

He said that flagpoles are equipped with a QR code, which provides information about the respective country’s population, capital, and currency.

Krishna said that the project reflected the global spirit of citizenship through the theme “Walk with Nations.”

The initiative was made possible with the support of Dr Badam Sundar Rao, Chairman of Sundar Associates and an alumnus of JNTUK. As part of the project, the flags have been installed near the administrative building of the university.
