Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh
In a major push to boost tourism, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh visited the Blue Flag-certified Rushikonda Beach in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. Accompanied by local officials and MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, the Minister reviewed ongoing efforts to uphold international Blue Flag standards of cleanliness, safety, and eco-management.
Durgesh emphasised that beautification works would continue, with ₹24 lakh allocated to enhance amenities. Plans are underway to create children’s play areas, increase greenery, and remove unnecessary structures to improve the beach’s visual appeal.
The Minister also inspected electric double-decker “Hop-On Hop-Off” buses set to operate along the coast, promising a clean, scenic ride for tourists and residents alike.
He highlighted the need for public cooperation to maintain cleanliness and noted that Visakhapatnam’s beaches attract international tourists, generating both employment and revenue. Discussions are also in progress to extend Blue Flag certification to more beaches across Andhra Pradesh’s 974 km coastline.
Durgesh further announced the return of Cordelia Cruise operations, thanks to coordination with Puducherry and port authorities. Initially operating four times until September, cruises are expected to scale up soon, linking sea travel with vibrant tourism circuits.
Visakhapatnam, he affirmed, is ready for a world-class tourism makeover.
