The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board, which runs the Lord Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirumala, has launched a mobile app that is being dubbed as a “one-stop solution” for all the needs of the devotees.

On average, at least 50,000 pilgrims visit the Tirumala temple — one of the richest Hindu temples in the world — every day.

Nestled in the seven hills of the Seshachalam forest range in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, the temple sees its pilgrim count go up to 1 lakh a day on special occasions and the holiday season.

While at present there is a website on which tickets for darshan and other sevas can be booked, the TTD has now launched the mobile app “TTDevasthanams” with the support of Jio Platforms, where devotees can avail of all the services.

Launching the app at Annamaiah Bhavan, TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy said it was designed to streamline communication, event updates, bookings, digital content, and e-Hundi payments, and ultimately elevate the overall devotional experience for all the pilgrims.

“It’s a universal app that acts as a handy guide for pilgrims. They can even watch all four SVBC live programmes on this app. Undoubtedly, it’s a first-of-its-kind religious app,” he said.

About the app

TTD Executive officer, AV Dharma Reddy described the app as a “Digital Gateway for Pilgrims”.

“We have been working with the Jio team for the past two years to bring out this fully personalised pilgrim-friendly app that presents a wide array of features which includes real-time updates on events and activities happening in Tirumala providing a seamless experience to the pilgrim using the app,” he said.

The mobile app includes push notifications regarding important announcements, access to live streaming, and access to online resources such as videos, ringtones, wallpapers, and important do’s & don’ts.

The app is fully integrated with TTD donation and hundi services. It is available on both Android and iOS platforms.

Once the app is downloaded, one needs to complete the profile of the user to help with all the transactions.

Pilgrim services like special entry darshan, accommodation, SV Pranadana Trust donations, darshan for differently abled and/or senior citizens, and anga pradiskshanam can be booked using the app.

Gold-plating works postponed

The Gold Malam works of Ananda Nilayam planned by TTD for the month of February have been postponed.

The TTD has decided to go for global tenders for the time-bound completion of the gold plating works to avoid inconvenience to the pilgrims.

TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy said the gold malam works taken up in Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple, which was given to a local contractor, have been underway for two years now.

But in Tirumala, the works should be completed within a specific schedule as the temple is visited by lakhs of devotees.

“So, we are contemplating calling for global tenders. Accordingly, we will come up with some other date after five or six months and ensure the works are completed within time bound to avoid inconvenience to pilgrims,” he said.
