TPREL signs MoU with Andhra Pradesh government to collaborate on renewable energy development

Synopsis: Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government, aimed at the development of renewable energy projects and exploring other opportunities in the state. TPREL and the Andhra Pradesh government will jointly explore opportunities to develop renewable energy (RE) projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid projects, to generate seven gigawatts of power.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power and a major player in India’s renewable energy sector, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government on Friday, 7 March.

Representatives of TPREL and the Andhra Pradesh government signed the MoU, aimed at the development of renewable energy projects and exploring other opportunities in the state, in the presence of Education, Information Technology, and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh.

This agreement marks a crucial step in advancing the state’s renewable energy goals.

‘To generate seven gigawatts power’

Under this agreement, TPREL and the Andhra Pradesh government will jointly explore opportunities to develop renewable energy (RE) projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid projects, to generate seven gigawatts (7,000 megawatts) of power.

This initiative is expected to bring investments of approximately ₹49,000 crore into the state. With this agreement, Tata Renewable Energy is set to become the leading investor in Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy sector.

This MoU will not only contribute to Andhra Pradesh’s clean energy targets but will also boost the state’s economy, enhance skill development among the youth, and support their livelihoods.

As part of the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) policy, the government will provide incentives to Tata Renewable Energy, an official release said.

On this occasion, Lokesh stated that the agreement aligns with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s vision to accelerate the transition toward green energy in the state. He emphasised that this MoU represents a significant milestone in the renewable energy sector.

He said the government’s goal is to attract ₹10 lakh crore in investments and establish renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 160 gigawatts.

‘Long term benefits’

The minister welcomed Tata Renewable Energy Limited’s partnership in driving the renewable energy sector forward in Andhra Pradesh. He noted that this agreement strengthens the long-term relationship between Tata Group and the Andhra Pradesh government.

By promoting investments and fostering innovation, the MoU is expected to deliver long-term economic and environmental benefits to the state.

He said that the government’s goal is to accelerate the expansion of clean energy and generate 7.5 lakh jobs.

The New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) will support Tata Renewable Energy in identifying land and providing necessary infrastructure.

The MoU will significantly enhance Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy capacity, and Tata Renewable Energy will play a key role in supporting India’s clean energy mission, Lokesh said.

‘Renewable energy hub’

TPREL CEO & Managing Director Deepesh Nanda expressed his satisfaction in partnering with the Andhra Pradesh government in the renewable energy sector.

He stated that this agreement would support the company in utilising its expertise and cutting-edge technology to help achieve the state’s clean energy goals.

“The development of up to seven gigawatts of clean energy projects will further strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as a renewable energy hub and contribute to India’s sustainable energy objectives,” he said and emphasised that the initiative would support the state’s socio-economic growth and reinforce a strong economic framework.

The event was attended by TPREL CFO Amit Mimani, Group Head (Planning Renewables) Taher Lokanandwala, Lead (Strategy) Garima Choudhary, Andhra Pradesh Minister of Energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar, Chief Secretary Vijayanand, NREDCAP MD Kamalakar Babu, and General Manager (Wind & Solar) K Srinivas and others.
