Pawan Kalyan launches Narasimha Varahi Brigade to protect Sanatana Dharma

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jansena Party supremo announced the launch of a new wing in the party on Saturday, 2 November – ‘Narasimha Varahi Brigade’. Its intent, he said, is to protect Sanatana dharma. This adds another feather to Kalyan’s ‘emerging Hindutva icon’ hat.

This comes on the heels of his Prayaschitta Deeksha and the Varahi declaration, where he called for unity between Hindus and the protection of their faith. Though in its nascent state, the party’s new wing aims to operate across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, serving as a bulwark against perceived threats to Sanatana dharma.

‘Sanatana Dharma disrespected’

Pawan Kalyan announced the wing when he attended the inauguration of NDA’s ‘Deepam-2′ scheme, which aims to provide subsidised gas cylinders at Jagannadhapuram village in NTR district.

About the perceived threat to Sanatana dharma, Pawan said, “We are a land that respects all religions. Yet, Sanatan dharma and its deities are disrespected.”

Citing the need to learn from the “discipline of worship in Islam,” he said that lack of discipline in worship will lead to Hindus’ downfall.

“Numerous forces are trying to destabilise this country. It is time for us to unite and speak up against these anti-social elements,” he added while noting that Hindus should be flawless before criticising other religions.

He further made a reference to ‘Prayashchitta Diksha,’ the 11-day penance he took over the alleged use of animal fat in Tirupati laddu two weeks ago to ensure that “Sanatana dharma becomes a guiding light for the world.” Several reports have since confirmed that animal fat was not used in preparation of Tirupati laddu. Yet, Kalyan has continued to repeat unsubstantiated and misleading claims.

Pawan Kalyan said that he respects all faiths, and that people around him belong to all religions. “Yet, whenever I talk about this (Sanatana dharma) I’m called a Hindutvawadi. This nation cannot stand without Sanatana dharma,” he opined.

He also claimed that Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh lacked any security against atrocities against them.

Speaking at the launch, he lauded the Lord Narasimha temple at the village and announced plans to renovate the temple, at the estimated cost of ₹2.5 Crore.

Narasimha Varahi Ghanam

“When a minority in India undergoes trouble a person like me will be the first to speak up. That is what Sanatana dharma taught me. However, it is also our responsibility to speak up for our own faith,” he stated.

He also encouraged others to speak up against atrocities against any section of the society.

Speaking about the importance of respecting all religions, he expressed, “One must respect a Masjid and Church equally. However, when you repeatedly attack Sanatana dharma you will attract punishments.”

Speaking on behalf of Janasena party, he announced: “To protect Sanatana dharma, we are forming Narasimha Varahi Ghanam (Brigade).” He announced the party’s plan to look at other student, culture, environment and youth wings to grow the party.

“If we cannot protect Sanatan dharma, India will grow weaker internationally.” he opined, adding that he would fight to protect all faiths until his last breath.

Speaking to South First about the announcement, Pawan Kalyan’s team revealed that the Narasimha Varahi Brigade is in its early stages and isn’t concrete yet. “It will function out of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to protect Sanatana dharma,” they informed, noting that they are yet to go into the specifics of the committee.

Call to save Sanatana dharma

Following CM Chandrababu Naidu’s claims of adulteration in Tirupati laddu, Pawan Kalyan has been vocal about protecting Sanatana dharma. Taking on a penance to redeem himself for the alleged transgressions against Lord Venkateswara, he has been seen donning Saffron and Red in public. Reports rejecting Naidu’s allegations did not deter Kalyan.

On 3 October, at the end of his penance, Pawan Kalyan addressed a public gathering at Tirupati. Calling for the unity of Hindus across all social sects, he deemed it their responsibility to protect Sanatana dharma. Criticising the “uneasy silence” over attacks on Sanatana dharma, he warned that no one should speak against it (Dharma).

He also proposed a law at the national level to protect Sanatana dharma from attacks and certification for the ingredients used in temples to ensure their purity.
