Synopsis: UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 results brought cheer to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with over 40 candidates selected, including Jeenu Sreejaswanth Chandra (AIR 23) and Gudelli Srujana (AIR 55). Government-supported initiatives like the Telangana SC Study Circle and Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhaya Hastham scheme boosted aspirants, highlighting perseverance, social mobility, and regional academic strength in India’s toughest exam.

The results of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2025, released on Friday, 6 March, brought a wave of cheer to the Telugu-speaking states, with several candidates from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana shining in one of India’s most toughest competitive exams.

Two candidates from the Telugu states carved out a place within the coveted top 100 ranks, while over 40 aspirants from the region were among the total 958 selected, underlining the growing academic prowess and determination of candidates from the region.

Leading the pack among Telugu candidates was Jeenu Sreejaswanth Chandra from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, who secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 23. His success is particularly remarkable because he is already undergoing training as an IPS officer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad after securing Rank 162 in the 2023 Civil Services exam. Driven by an ambition to join the Indian Administrative Service, he appeared for the examination again—and this time he struck gold.

Another standout performer was Gudelli Srujana from Peddapalli district in Telangana, who secured Rank 55 in her fifth attempt, proving that persistence often pays rich dividends. Currently undergoing training as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Telangana Police Academy, Srujana hails from a modest background. Her father works as a general assistant in the Singareni coal mines. She completed her schooling in Centenary Colony, studied intermediate at a private institution in Hyderabad, and later graduated in computer science engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.

Other performers included Atla Arun Teja from Kazipet in Hanumakonda district, who secured Rank 123, and Banoth Lakshmi Rachana from Rangareddy, who achieved Rank 178.

Lakshmi Rachana, an engineering graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, earlier worked with an electric vehicle manufacturing company in Pune before deciding to pursue the civil services. She chose Anthropology as her optional subject. During the interview, the board reportedly quizzed her on topics ranging from Telangana’s development initiatives to electric and hydrogen vehicles and even international sports events, to which she said she responded confidently.

Among the many success stories, Dainampalli Praveen from Eturunagaram in Mulugu district stood out for overcoming immense personal hardship. Having lost both parents at a young age, he was raised by his grandmother, a sanitation worker in the village panchayat office. Undeterred by adversity, Praveen climbed the ladder step by step and secured Rank 793. He had earlier qualified in the state’s Group-1 examination and was selected as a DSP, but continued pursuing his dream of clearing the civil services.

In another inspiring story, brothers Vikram Simha Reddy and Vijaya Simha Reddy from Nalgonda district both cleared the exam in their fifth attempt. Vikram secured Rank 541, while Vijaya obtained Rank 682. The elder brother currently works as an MPDO in Wanaparthy district, while the younger one recently cleared the state Group-1 examination.

Government-supported aspirants shine

Candidates trained under state-supported initiatives in Telangana also put up an impressive performance this year.

Students from the Telangana SC Study Circle made their mark in the final list. A Ashish from Warangal district secured Rank 676, while D Praveen Kumar from Mulugu district obtained Rank 793, both likely to secure positions in the Indian Police Service.

According to officials, 27 students from the study circle had cleared the Preliminary examination held in May last year and appeared for the Mains conducted in August. Seven of them reached the interview stage, and two ultimately made it to the final merit list.

Established in 1980 and located in Banjara Hills in Hyderabad, the Telangana SC Study Circle provides 10-month residential coaching for civil services aspirants from economically disadvantaged SC and ST communities selected through a state-level entrance test.

The institute has produced more than 450 civil servants so far, while its network of 12 district study circles provides coaching for competitive examinations such as TGPSC, banking, RRB and SSC. Officials said the institution had helped over 1,000 candidates from SC and ST communities secure government jobs over the years.

Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhaya Hastham scheme

The Telangana government’s “Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhaya Hastham” scheme, implemented with financial support from the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), also proved to be a significant boost for aspirants from economically weaker backgrounds.

This year, 202 candidates who cleared the UPSC Preliminary examination were provided financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each. Of them, 51 candidates who qualified for the interview stage received an additional ₹1 lakh to support their final preparation.

Eventually, 20 of the candidates supported under the scheme made it to the final list. Among them, Srujana—daughter of Singareni employee G. Rajesham—secured an impressive Rank 55.

Of the 20 successful candidates supported by the programme this year, 10 belong to the OBC category, four to the ST category, and three each to the SC and General categories. 16 are men and four are women.

District-wise, Rangareddy accounted for the highest number of successful candidates with five selections, followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri and Warangal Urban with three each. One candidate each was selected from Mulugu, Nalgonda, Peddapalli, Suryapet, Jagityal, Jangaon, Bhupalpally, Mahabubnagar and Medak districts.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu congratulated the successful candidates, praising their perseverance and dedication.

At the national level, Anuj Agnihotri from Rajasthan secured Rank 1, emerging as the topper of the Civil Services Examination 2025. A medical graduate from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur, he chose Medical Science as his optional subject.

The second rank was secured by Rajeshwari Suve from Tamil Nadu, an electrical and electronics engineering graduate from Anna University, who opted for Sociology as her optional subject.

Among the top 25 candidates, 11 were women and 14 were men, with many coming from prestigious institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology, National Law Universities, Delhi University and the University of Mumbai.
