Synopsis: With the NDA projecting itself as a coalition of “good governance” in contrast to what it describes as YSRCP’s institutional damage, the 10 September gathering could prove pivotal in consolidating Naidu’s image as a development-oriented leader. The “Super Six” promises— the key electoral assurances— are widely believed to have turned the tide in favour of the NDA during the 2024 polls.
The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its NDA allies in Andhra Pradesh are preparing for another massive show of strength in the perennially drought-hit Anantapur on 10 September.
Titled “Super Six – Super Hit,” the mega public meeting is intended to sustain the momentum of the NDA’s resounding victory in the 2024 Assembly elections and carry it forward to future polls. The immediate goal is to replicate the 2024 triumph in the local body elections scheduled for January 2026. The TDP hopes the event will further energise its base and keep its principal rival, the YSRCP, from regaining lost ground.
The “Super Six – Super Hit” is being viewed as a strategic move by the TDP-led NDA to reaffirm its governance credentials amid relentless Opposition criticism.
Being held 15 months after the NDA came to power in Andhra Pradesh, the programme also doubles as a self-appraisal of its performance so far. By focusing on women and farmers—two key voter demographics— the event seeks to deepen grassroots loyalty, particularly in Rayalaseema districts such as Anantapur, a traditional TDP stronghold.
The meeting will feature the participation of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh, Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, Revenue Minister Anagani Satyaprasad, and several others.
The event is designed not just as a celebration but also as a counteroffensive against the YSRCP’s social media campaigns. Naidu has instructed party leaders not to remain silent against “misinformation”, signaling a more aggressive political stance to protect the government’s image.
At the same time, the programme is expected to bolster the alliance’s unity, which has been crucial since the 2024 victory, while also setting the stage for similar events across the state. However, any logistical lapses or lower-than-expected turnout could hand ammo to critics questioning the sustainability of the schemes amid fiscal challenges.
The meeting is being seen as one that will reflect the ever evolving political dynamics in Andhra Pradesh, where welfare populism continues to dominate the discourse.
With the NDA projecting itself as a coalition of “good governance” in contrast to what it describes as YSRCP’s institutional damage, the 10 September gathering could prove pivotal in consolidating Naidu’s image as a development-oriented leader.
Preparations are in full swing at the GMR Grounds on the outskirts of Anantapur. The event is poised to be a grand display by the coalition government, highlighting the implementation of its “Super Six” welfare schemes just 15 months after assuming office in June 2024.
A massive turnout is expected, reinforcing the TDP-led alliance’s claims that it had consolidated its mandate from the 2024 Assembly elections, while countering the YSRCP’s narrative that the ruling coalition is already losing its steam.
The “Super Six” promises— the key electoral assurances— are widely believed to have turned the tide in favour of the NDA during the 2024 polls, helping Naidu return to power with a landslide 164 seats.
Alliance leaders claim that all six promises are fully implemented, bringing what they describe as “visible happiness” to households across Andhra Pradesh.
The Anantapur meeting marks the first large-scale public event dedicated to celebrating these milestones, positioning the NDA as a welfare-driven government despite inheriting what it claims was a Rs 10 lakh crore debt burden from the previous YSRCP administration.
Naidu has recently said, albeit in another context: “We have made Super Six into a Super Hit. We have implemented the assurances given in our manifesto.”
TDP State President Palla Srinivasa Rao is confident that the event will be historic: “This event will be no less significant than Mahanadu, our annual conclave recently held in Kadapa. Within 14 months, the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance has fulfilled all six promises. ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ has brought happiness to households.”
The meeting, scheduled to commence at 2 pm at GMR Grounds in Srinagar Colony, Anantapur, is expected to draw over 3.5 lakh people, with women forming a major part of the audience as the direct beneficiaries of schemes like free bus travel and Thalliki Vandanam.
Party MLAs and district leaders are overseeing logistics ranging from helipad construction for VIP arrivals, traffic and parking management, security, drinking water, power supply, and mobile toilets to ensure smooth conduct of the event.
TDP State President Palla Srinivasa Rao, Anantapur MLA Daggubati Venkateswara Prasad, and other coalition leaders are personally supervising arrangements. Ground-level leaders are coordinating transportation, food, and water distribution, stressing voluntary participation to showcase grassroots enthusiasm.
The TDP claims that the scale of the preparations has already created unease in YSRCP circles. The party even took a jibe at the Opposition’s “malicious propaganda” against the event as proof of its nervousness.
