Days after news of the Income Tax Department issuing a notice to him broke, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday, 6 September, deemed it part of a “trend”.

Addressing a press conference, the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh said that he was watching this trend for quite some time now. In a fleeting reference to the I-T notice served on him, he said that it was one among several such attempts.

“They had used similar modus operandi and made allegations over FibreGrid, skill development, Amaravati lands, Outer Ring Road, and now income tax,” he alleged.

Naidu added that YSRCP was using the “corrupt” media house that it owns and tried to create a divide between him and the people, but he was not afraid. “My journey will continue. I will not be cowed down. While protecting myself, I have to protect the state. I will continue doing it to protect dharma,” he said.

Naidu lashes out at Jagan, YSRCP

Interacting with the media at Rayadurgam in Anantapur district on Wednesday, Naidu said that the people were watching Jagan Mohan Reddy’s destructive rule carefully.

“He is not just a psycho. He is a hardcore psycho. He is digging canals in the agricultural lands of farmers without their knowledge. If anyone raises their voice against any illegal activity, the YSRCP leaders are bearing down on them,” Naidu said.

He also said that he might be arrested in a day or two as he was fighting with the YSRCP government on behalf of the people, “The government is harassing Danda Nagendra, who filed a petition in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against illegal mining of sand in AP. There is no end to the atrocities being committed by the YSRCP government. They may even arrest me tomorrow or the day after. They may even attack me. I lived with integrity in my 45 years of public life. I committed no mistake. Former chief minister of AP late YS Rajasekhara Reddy could not prove a single charge against me even after ordering 26 inquiries.”

Naidu said that it was imperative that at least one youth from each household in the state should come out to wage a struggle against this lawlessness. “All of us will have to face this rule of anarchy. We have to be prepared to make sacrifices. I am ready to wage a relentless struggle against the YSRCP government,” he said, adding that the YSRC leaders would go to any extent to intimidate TDP workers.

He said that the YSRCP government’s hallmark was lawlessness, while his TDP government, between 2014-2019, had focused on welfare and development. “I ensured that the fruits of development and the benefits of welfare schemes reached the targeted beneficiaries,” he said, adding that it was his government that had hiked the pension payable to the aged and destitute from ₹200 to ₹2,000 per month.

‘YSRCP twists facts about TDP’

The TDP supremo said that the YSRCP always twisted facts to paint TDP as the villain. “I am right now visiting Rayadurgam. The YSRCP says that I had not mentioned the name of Kalava Srinivasulu as the candidate for Rayadurgam. For some seats, there is no need to announce candidates. They are there visible all the time. Srinivasulu is a member of the TDP politburo. Who will I field if not him?” he asked, wondering whether it was necessary for him to announce his own candidature when he visits his home constituency of Kuppam.

Expressing his disgust with the YSRCP government, he said that the police had registered a case of attempt to murder against him at Angallu in Annamaya district (formerly part of Kadapa district) when an attempt on his life took place earlier this month.

“I am an NSG protectee and yet an attempt was made on my life. After four days, the police brought pressure on one Babu, asking him to confess that he had tried to attack the police on my instructions,” Naidu said.
