The Telugu Desam Party has unveiled a new campaign — Motha Mogiddham — to rally support for party chief Chandrababu Naidu after his arrest in the skill development scam.

According to the campaign, all Telugu citizens are being encouraged to express their solidarity with ex-chief minister Naidu by stepping out of their houses and offices at 7 pm on Saturday, 30 September, and creating loud noises.

These include ringing bells continuously, beating utensils, and — if necessary — even resorting to whistling or honking their vehicle horn if stuck in traffic, for five minutes.

The noise protest

“Let us show how the public will react if an illegal arrest is made. Let us prove that if false cases are made, we will not back down. This is the moment to prove that all the Telugu people support Chandrababu, who is upright, honest, and Telugu,” said a poster in Telugu, shared by the TDP on social media platforms.

“In support of the impeccable politician, Chandrababu Naidu, let’s raise the voices of the people in a democratic manner from 7 pm to 7.05 pm on 30 Saturday,” it added.

Taking to X, Chandrababu’s son and TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh emphasised the importance of public response in demonstrating the potential consequences of what he said was an illegal arrest.

Lokesh called upon supporters of Chandrababu Naidu to halt their activities for five minutes, and suggested that they express their solidarity by making loud noises together, from wherever they are.

Adding her voice to the call for action, Chandrababu’s daughter-in-law Brahmani Nara took to X on Friday evening.

She expressed concern about the potential dangers of democracy when the misdeeds of those in power went unchecked.

Brahmani also urged people not to remain silent, emphasising the need to make noise and protest against the authorities.

Both Lokesh and Brahmani stressed the importance of documenting these actions by encouraging individuals to capture videos and share them on social media platforms.

Netzines react

There were mixed responses on X to the TDP’s call for action poster.

One user on X said the legal battle would proceed and the courts would determine Chandrababu’s innocence. “Urging people to make noises only makes them the butt of their own joke,” he wrote.

Another user wrote, “Do you think the citizens of AP have no other work? In the midst of their busy lives, they chose politicians to do their bidding; by the people, for the people. Remember, it’s not the other way around.”

Some even took the opportunity to make fun of Nara Lokesh, who was recently named accused no 14 in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road case.

Replying to Brahmani Nara’s tweet, film director and screenwriter Ram Gopal Varma said, “Brahminigaru , My unsolicited piece of advice to you as a budding politician is not to test ur influencing power with such risky propositions as this…”

He ended his tweet to Brahmani with, “Important note: please don’t believe ur advisors.”

While some called the exercise “sound pollution”, others joked that Diwali was coming early this year, and asked if they could burst crackers as well.

There were also some who applauded the idea and urged others to participate.

One user on X wrote in Telugu, “People don’t be afraid to participate in this program, there is only three more months to go to Jagan’s house and then he is sure to go to jail, the schemes that are being given to you in this time, my dear, everyone participate, make this program successful.”
