N Chandrababu Naidu asked TDP workers and leaders to mingle with the people.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said that at least one in four people in the state must be a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
In its membership enrollment drive, the party has achieved a milestone with membership now at 73 lakh; the total population of the state, according to the 2011 Census, stood at over eight crore.
Addressing party cadres recently, Naidu said, “Party workers and leaders mingle with the people and address their problems. Only those who engage with the people will have recognition in the party.” He urged party workers to strive to increase membership enrolment in the party.
The five constituencies which topped in membership enrollment were Rajampet, Nellore City, Kuppam, Palakollu, and Mangalagiri.
The membership drive is being led by TDP national general secretary and state Education Minister N Lokesh.
Of the 73 lakh members, 85,000 were from the neighbouring Telangana state. As many as 54% of the members are fresh faces.
Rajampet ranked first with 118,000 members, followed by Nellore City (106,000 members).
Chandrababu Naidu’s own constituency, Kuppam, recorded 104,000 members, Palakollu 102,000 members, and Lokesh’s constituency, Mangalagiri, 90,000 members.
Expressing satisfaction over the pace of the enrolment drive, Naidu emphasised the need to implement programmes aimed at improving skill development, helping the people access the state’s development programmes.
He promised to take care of the interests of party cadres, and assured members that their needs and those of their families would be taken care of.
“In the next two to three years, we will ensure that one in every four people (in the state) would be part of the TDP family,” Chandrababu Naidu’s political secretary TD Janardhan told South First.
