Andhra CM talks about 2029 elections to TDP legislators

Eyeing the next Assembly elections in 2029, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, on Friday, 18 October, asked TDP legislators to get cracking now to consolidate the gains the party made in the last Assembly elections.

The CM was addressing a meeting of the party MLAs, MPs, and MLCs at the party office in Mangalagiri in Guntur district. He said that, for the NDA alliance to come to power again at the Centre, TDP has to remain as strong as it is now in Andhra Pradesh.

He noted that coordination between the Centre and the state is of paramount importance to achieve the goal.

On meeting NDA CMs

Chandrababu Naidu spoke with party leaders about meeting the CMs and other high-ranking leaders in the NDA alliance when BJP’s Nayab Singh Saini took oath as the Haryana CM on Thursday, 17 October.

Sharing about what was discussed in Haryana, he shared, “We decided to evolve an elaborate mechanism to ensure fool-proof coordination between the BJP and the NDA partners. The centre and the states must work in unison. It is our responsibility to bring about synergy from this endeavour.”

He insisted that the TDP leaders constantly work towards taking “welfare schemes of both the Centre and the state to people.”

While pointing out that respecting the interests of NDA partners in the state is crucial, he also emphasised that TDP leaders take steps to ensure that their party grows and remains strong across Assembly constituencies.

“Of the 175 constituencies, we are present in 135 constituencies. In the remaining 40  seats, we have to ensure that the TD is in fine fettle. Of these 40 seats, 11 seats went to the Opposition party, while the remaining seats went to our alliance partners,” he said.

Respecting NDA partners

Chandrababu Naidu cautioned TDP legislators against yielding to the temptation of not giving respect to NDA partners.

“People gave their mandate to all the three of us. Don’t think we do not need them because the elections are behind us. Keep in mind that the elections would come again and if you do not take the alliance partners along with you, we would be inviting trouble,” he said.

Praising PM Narendra Modi, he said Modi became PM thrice only because he toiled hard. “PM never allowed his party to do anything wrong. He sat for five hours in the NDA meeting yesterday at Chandigarh. He does not have to sit that long but he did, because he wants to ensure helps lay a long runway for his party and the NDA to serve the nation.”

Recalling how PM Modi steered BJP to victory six times in Gujarat and three times in Haryana, he added, “Modi kept the interests of the people on top of his mind while taking any decision.”

Asking party legislators to not just celebrate the victory in elections, the TDP supremo insisted they work to ensure a permanent stay in the hearts of people. Though he would take policy decisions, Chandrababu Naidu said it is the party leaders and legislators who have to ensure all the welfare schemes reaches people.

Super-six election promises

“We announced super-six promises during Assembly elections. As part of it, we will provide LPG cylinders free of cost to people from this Diwali. I have already set in motion the most important promise of providing 20 lakh jobs to the youths,” he assured.

Referring to the recent unveiling of super six industry policy initiatives at a cabinet meeting, the CM said, “It would rain jobs on the unemployed youth. And by Sankranti, the state will have potholes-free roads by spending ₹600 crore,” the chief minister said.

The CM recalled how it became difficult for him to allot Assembly tickets to some party leaders who worked selflessly for the party on account of the special circumstances prevailing at that time.

“I have promised them that I would take care of their interests and I will. People trusted us and elected NDA to power. There are as many as 65 first time MLAs, and 18 new ministers in our party now. The number of new faces among legislators is 80 if we club both the MLAs and MPs,” the chief minister said.

Acknowledging that it is natural for there to be difference of opinion in a party as big as the TDP, he assured, “I, as the head of the family, would have to resolve them and take the party forward which I will do.”
