Telangana chief secretary K Ramakrishna Rao

Special Chief Secretary (Finance) K Ramakrishna Rao is most likely to step into Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar’s shoes after the latter was asked to report to the Andhra Pradesh government by the state high court on Tuesday, 10 January.

However, government sources told South First that another officer in the reckoning for the coveted post is Special Chief Secretary (Forests) Santhi Kumari.

The government is likely to issue an order appointing the new chief secretary on Wednesday.

Immediately after the Telangana High Court delivered the order, the Centre’s Department of Personnel and Training sent a missive to Somesh Kumar that he stood relieved following the quashing of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order which had allowed him to be retained in Telangana.

He was asked to report to the Andhra Pradesh government by 12 January.

After the communication from the Centre, Somesh Kumar conferred with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. Now that Somesh Kumar has been relieved, the chief minister is busy trying to handpick the successor to Somesh Kumar.
