Telugu Jawan killed in action at LoC, tributes pour in across states

Synopsis: Jawan Mood Murali Naik of the 851 Light Regiment was killed in action in a gun battle along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir on May 9, 2025. A 23-year-old from Pudagundlapalli Thanda, Andhra Pradesh, he joined the Army in 2022. His sacrifice has triggered widespread grief across the Telugu states. He is survived by his heartbroken parents

Jawan Mood Murali Naik of the 851 Light Regiment was killed in action in the early hours of May 9, 2025, during a fierce gun battle along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. A native of Pudagundlapalli Thanda in Sri Sathya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh, the young soldier laid down his life in the line of duty at just 23 years old. His sacrifice has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes across the Telugu states. His death has been reported as a battle casualty.

Naik was stationed along the volatile LoC in Jammu & Kashmir when the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire with heavy artillery and mortar fire following India’s Operation Sindoor. Critically injured, the young soldier succumbed to his wounds as attempts to airlift him to New Delhi proved unsuccessful.

Born in 2002, Murali Naik was a native of Pudagundlapalli Thanda, a remote hamlet in the Sri Sathya Sai District of Andhra Pradesh. He joined the Indian Army in December 2022, driven by a resolute spirit and a dream to serve the country.

He is survived by his grieving parents, M Jyothibai and Sreeramnaik, who can be seen crying inconsolably in videos online.

Condolences pour in from Telugu states

Following the news of Marali’s death, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu took to X to pay tribute to the  Jawan. “It is saddening to hear of the loss of life of a soldier named Murali Nayak from Gorantla Mandal, Penukonda Assembly Constituency, Sri Sathya Sai District in the defence of the country. Tributes to the martyr Murali Nayak, who laid down his life for the country. I express my deepest condolences to his family members,” he said, posting his picture. 

The Governor of Andhra Pradesh also paid tribute to Murali, while IT Minister Nara Lokesh promised full support for the family from the government. 

Similarly, Telangana MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla also took to X  to pay respects to the Jawan. “Deeply saddened by the loss of our brave Telugu Jawan, Murali Nayak from Penukonda, Satyasai district, who laid down his life in the line of duty in J&K while combating during Operation Sindoor,” she said. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Goud also paid his respects to Murali on X. 

Murali Naik’s body is expected to arrive at his native village tomorrow.
