Synopsis: Two head constables of the Krishnalanka police station surrendered in the Gade Sai Krishna custodial death case and were questioned by the Special Investigation Team. Investigators are examining their alleged role in Sai Krishna’s illegal detention, custodial torture, death and the destruction of evidence, alongside the already arrested Circle Inspector, SSVV Nagaraju.

Two head constables of the Krishnalanka police station, Jangam Nani and Ashok, who are allegedly involved in the custodial torture, murder and destruction of evidence in the alleged custodial death of 25-year-old Gade Sai Krishna, surrendered before the police in Vijayawada on Monday, 29 June.

Soon after they surrendered, officials of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) shifted them to the Command and Control Centre, where they were questioned. The NTR Commissioner of Police also placed the two head constables under suspension in connection with the case.

The two head constables are alleged to have assisted the arrested Circle Inspector, SSVV Nagaraju, in the illegal detention, custodial torture, murder and subsequent screening of evidence in the case.

The SIT, headed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) M Ravi Prakash, along with Superintendents of Police Amit Bardar and Adnan Nayeem Asmi, questioned the two suspended head constables.

According to sources, the investigators questioned them on the duration of Sai Krishna’s alleged illegal detention in the police lock-up, the number of police personnel involved in the alleged custodial torture, the circumstances and timing of his death, whether any medical assistance was provided, the identity of the doctor, if any, and the manner in which the body was disposed of.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High Court posted for two weeks the habeas corpus petition filed by Sai Krishna’s mother, Gade Vijaya Lakshmi.

The petition filed by the SIT seeking police custody of the arrested Circle Inspector, SSVV Nagaraju, has been posted to 1 July. The Andhra Pradesh government had constituted the SIT on 21 June to probe the case.
