They had almost completed their journey and were about to reach Tadipatri when the tragedy struck them. The victims included children and women.

According to information, the mishap occurred when 14 persons of family and relatives from Tadipatri in the Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh were returning to their hometown after the darshan of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala.

As their MUV was speeding, the driver of the truck coming in the opposite direction lost control and hit it with a violent force. The two vehicles involved in the accident blocked vehicular traffic for some time. Later the police cleared the highway.

Seven killed in Kakinada

The accident happened on the Tallarevu bypass road in the Kakinada district around 3.30 pm on Sunday when a speeding private bus rammed head-on into an autorickshaw, which was headed towards Yanam.

The bus driver was taken into police custody, while the autorickshaw driver escaped unhurt.

Of the 14 women passengers travelling in the autorickshaw, six were killed instantly while one person died in hospital, police said.

The vehicle was travelling with more than its capacity as the autorickshaw should carry a maximum of only four people.

They further said all women passengers were labourers employed in a privately-owned shrimp farm in Koringa village of Kakinada district and were returning to their homes in Yanam.
