The accident took place at 2 am, at the Musunuru toll plaza, near Kavali in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.
Seven people were killed and 20 others injured in a serial crash involving two trucks and a private bus near Kavali in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore in the small hours of Saturday, 10 February.
The accident took place at 2 am, at the Musunuru Toll Plaza, the police said, adding that the bus was heading to Hyderabad from Chennai.
Two trucks, one carrying oxen and the other ferrying iron were heading to Srikalahasti near Tirupati when the first truck rear-ended the other.
“After being hit, the driver of the iron-laden truck lost control of the vehicle and rammed the private bus coming in the opposite direction,” Kaval sub-divisional police officer Venkata Ramana said.
While four people were killed instantly, three others died at the Nellore government hospital, the officer added.
Speaking to TV news channel TV9, one of the survivors said, “The incident occurred around 2 am, the police arrived at the scene and shifted us to the hospital.”
Another survivor said, “We were sitting in the last seats and weren’t impacted as much as those in the front rows. All the people injured seriously were sitting in the front rows.”
The critically injured were being shifted to Nellore for better treatment, reports said.
The police have registered a case and probing further into the accident.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer expressed anguish and profound grief over the mishap.
“The Governor offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members,” said a press release from Raj Bhavan.
