Seizures by EC authorities in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana go up to ₹126 crore each

Polling will be held on 13 May for all 17, and 25 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, along with Assembly elections for AP.

The Election Commission has seized cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals, freebies and other inducements worth ₹126 crore in Andhra Pradesh between 1 March and 13 April.

Of the seizures made so far, cash amounted to ₹32 crore, liquor (₹ 20 crore), drugs (₹4 crore), precious metals (₹57 crore), freebies and other inducements (₹13 crore).

“This was enabled under the leadership of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena and his regular reviews with election officers, 20 enforcement agencies and others,” said a press release from the CEO’s office on Monday, 15 April.

Further, watertight surveillance mechanisms through state-wide check posts, interstate check-posts and round-the-clock police security, among others, has enabled the seizures.

In Telangana too, the law enforcement agencies seized cash, gold, liquor, and articles meant for distribution as freebies totalling over ₹126 crore, till April 14, elections officials said on Monday.

The cumulative seized amount of ₹126,13,74,210 includes over ₹50 crore in cash, gold, silver, and other valuables worth over ₹13 crore, liquor worth over ₹20 crore, drugs/narcotics valued at ₹22 crore and other items/freebies worth over ₹18 crore, according to a statement issued by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.

Polling will be held on 13 May for all 17, and 25 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, along with Assembly elections for Andhra Pradesh.
