Cleaning efforts underway at Visakhapatnam's Rushikonda Beach
In a renewed push to preserve the prestigious Blue Flag certification of Visakhapatnam’s Rushikonda Beach, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh has intensified beautification and cleanliness efforts. Recognising the beach’s growing popularity among tourists, the minister made regular inspections and is closely monitoring environmental standards, safety, and waste management.
The government has allocated ₹24 lakh for enhancing the beach’s infrastructure, including the installation of machines to trap garbage and prevent marine pollution. A joint action committee comprising officials from tourism, GVMC, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board, NIO, and private partners has been formed to identify and eliminate sewage outfalls and ensure long-term sustainability.
To discourage misinformation circulating on social media through outdated visuals, the minister urged the public to rely on current data and contribute constructively. Following a brief suspension of the Blue Flag tag, swift corrective steps led to its reinstatement.
Beyond Rushikonda, plans are underway to secure Blue Flag recognition for more beaches across the state. The introduction of double-decker tourist buses and the development of a broader tourism circuit aim to enrich visitor experiences beyond the coastline.
Officials, including Tourism Secretary Ajay Jain and MD Amrapali Kata, are actively guiding district teams, reaffirming the coalition government’s commitment to responsible tourism and environmental conservation.
